How it works
RCA Secret Dubai is an exhibition and sale of original postcard-sized artworks by regional and internationally acclaimed artists and designers, plus up-and-coming graduates from the Royal College of Art.
Taking place in two venues at Alserkal Avenue and Art Dubai, it's a chance to get your hands on original works of art for a small price, while supporting students at a formative time in their careers. Each postcard in RCA Secret Dubai is signed only on the back, so collectors don't know the identity of the artists until they have made their purchases.
1 Browse the postcards
Visit the exhibition at Alserkal Avenue and Art Dubai in Madinat Jumeirah and find the postcards you like best. Or browse through the cards on the website, and save your favourites (register as a collector first to receive a Buyer’s ID number).
2 Come to the Secret exhibition
The sale will go on throughout the fair days, and buyers are admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend arriving early, to have a better chance of taking home your favourite works.
3 Buy your favourites
If no one else snaps them up first, you can buy your favourite cards from the exhibition, in person. Buyers must have registered on the website, or at the fair, and have a Buyer’s ID. Buyers can collect their cards on Saturday 19 March.
4 Discover the secret
After the Stewarts Law RCA Secret London sales close, you can check the website where the artists’ names will be revealed online beside each card, and the list of artists’ names links to their artworks – the whole secret is revealed.
Get to the front of the queue
The exhibition opens to buyers at Alserkal Avenue on Monday 14 March and at Art Dubai on Thursday 17 March. Postcard numbers 1 – 600 will be displayed at Alserkal Avenue and 601 – 1200 at Art Dubai in Madinat. We recommend coming along early to snap up the cards you love.
Yes, they will be available to view on this website when the Secret exhibition opens.
You must be registered with RCA Secret and have a buyer's ID before you can save your favourite postcards. Registering is easy — just click the link at the top of this page. Once you're logged in, click on a postcard you like, and you'll be invited to 'Favourite' it. If you change your mind, you can 'Remove from favourites' in the same way. To view all your favourites, go to the FAVOURITES tab above the postcards.
We're not sending paper invitations (in deference to our friends the trees), so make sure you register on the website to save time on the day. You can log in to remind yourself of your buyer's ID, before you come to the sale. Registration will also be available at the exhibition.
Yes, you will need to register for a buyer's ID number to purchase a card. We recommend registering in advance through this website to speed up your buying process on sale day, but you can also register at the exhibition. Registering is easy — just click the link at the top of this page. If you're already registered, you can check your buyer's ID by going to your account. But note that if you've registered for RCA Secret in London in previous years you need to register again for Dubai.
We want as many people as possible to go away with a postcard they love, so the maximum number each collector can buy is four.
New and established collectors can take home postcard-sized artworks for 500 AED.
It's a veritable Who's Who! Grayson Perry, Yinka Shonibare, Paula Rego, John Baldessari, David Bailey, Ryan Gander and Richard Long all made special works for us, as well as architect Zaha Hadid, fashion designers Christopher Bailey and Sir Paul Smith.
I'm travelling to Dubai for the sale – are there any places to stay near Art Dubai and Alserkal Avenue?
Yes, there are several accommodation options in the areas between Madinat Jumeirah resort, where Art Dubai takes place, and Alserkal Avenue in Al Qouz 1.
Once you’ve registered to receive your buyer’s ID and you’ve made your selection of cards, you can then queue up for the sales desk. When you get to the front of the queue, give the cashier your buyer's ID and the numbers of your favourite cards, and they will let you know which ones are still available. It's best to prepare a nice long list so that you can be sure to get something you like.
I've attended RCA Secret London before and I already have a buyer's ID. Can I use it for RCA Secret Dubai?
No, for the moment buyers must register separately for the RCA Secret events in London and Dubai. If you have previously registered for the London event and wish to buy postcards in Dubai in 2016, you must register again, on this website.
You can, but there's a small surcharge for credit and debit cards (and Amex is not accepted). Cash is also accepted of course, and helps to speed up the transaction.
Buyers will be able to take their newly purchased artworks home with them on the last day of the fair, Saturday 19 March from 10am – 7pm at Alserkal Avenue and 12–6pm at Art Dubai. If you can’t collect your cards for any reason, let us know at the cash desk and we’ll arrange to post them to you. (Courier rates will apply.)
